AI consultancy and outsourcing
A world that brings life force to cancer patients. Every doctor is helped by an AI. Medicine is more human. Patients are treated faster and at a lower cost.
Cancer mortality rates have decreased by 27% during the previous 20 years, from 2001 to 2020, going from 196.5 deaths to 144.1 deaths per 100,000 population (CDC).
According to Globocan, Romania registered a total number of over 98k cases of cancer and 50k deaths in 2020. One of the most common aspects that leads to death is the late treatment for the diagnosed cancer. If we look at the cancer treatment process statistics, we discover that 50% of cancer patients need radiotherapy, and the cause for late treatment is also because we have an overload of cases for a limited number of Specialists.
This reduces the interaction between doctor and patient to a few minutes, affecting the patient’s state throughout the irradiation process. A patient needs psychological and emotional support during the entire treatment process.
As part of this med-tech startup, we had the mission to accelerate cancer treatment by building an accelerated AI organ contouring device, for effortless radiotherapy built an AI-based system that automates image analysis in radiotherapy, from scratch. We wanted to reduce the time for radiation oncologists in the contouring process.
In this process, we’ve battled many outdated workflows that have lasted for years in the medical system, trying to incorporate new AI tools that bring added value to patient treatment.
Spending so many hours with oncologists and patients, it has been confirmed that spending time on mundane tasks, such as a manual long-lasting contouring process could be crucial to a patient’s life.
We built software based on artificial intelligence, capable of analyzing CTs and MRIs quickly and precisely. This technology creates a higher level of automatization regarding the processes of contouring and image registration, both vital in radiotherapy.
Organs at risk are healthy organs in the tumour’s proximity that have a high risk of irradiation during treatment. In this process, the tumour gets irradiated, but the healthy organs around it (e.g. lungs, heart, brain etc.) will also be irradiated in a limited quantity. It was a must to contour organs at risk with high precision because this way we could calculate the exact irradiation dosage that we could use during the radiotherapy process.
